Games of Oktoberfest

The intense demeanor of the Krug Carry competitors…the electric atmosphere of the Dachshund Dash (aka Wiener Dog Race)…the icy stare of determination as the first barrel is rolled out in the McNellie’s Bier Barrel Race. Welcome to the Oktoberfest Games!

The Dachshund DashWiener dogs are already funny to look at. Now try watching over 40 of them zig, zag, jump, and generally get confused in a test of speed and intelligence! Ok, we’re being dramatic. The pups just need to run 150 feet from one end of the Dash to the other. Sound easy enough? Start training your wiener dog now!Read Rules and Regulations HereLocation and Time: The Oktoberfest Games Courtyard, Sunday @ 1 PMWill Your Wiener Dog Win?

McNellie’s Bier Barrel RaceThe Fassler Hall Stammtisch is the center of the universe Saturday at 1 PM for true fans of the beer keg. Why? Because it is ground zero for the legendary McNellie’s Bier Barrel Race! The intense back-and-forth barrel-rolling action is enough to make anyone dizzy with excitement.Read Rules and Regulations HereLocation and Time: Fassler Hall Stammtisch, Saturday @ 1 PMReady to Roll?

Krug CarryDon’t cry over spilled beer! Traditionally one of the most accessible Oktoberfest games for novices, Stein Carry contestants are scored on speed AND spillage. Carrying up to 20 pounds of beer quickly and safely across the course can be difficult, but the FREE beer at the end of the competition hopefully makes it worth the effort!Location and Time: The Oktoberfest Games Courtyard, Friday @ 7 PMCarry the Krug

Strong SteinAre you Strong Stein? This competition of strength pits contestants against beer steins…as in, “How long can you hold out 34 ounces of beer?” The best part? Center of the Universe Festival

All are welcome with open arms to the Center of the Universe Festival in the Brady Arts District in Tulsa. This year’s bash is scheduled for July 19-20, 2013.

Named after the popular display of architectural mystery in the heart (or center?) of downtown, this non-profit music and arts festival will let you stop and stare at jaw dropping, eye opening, heart pumping, nostalgia-inducing bands that everybody talks about.

If music isn’t really your thing or you think fun is only for young people, then let the Center of the Universe prove you wrong. There’s really no excuse NOT to show up, considering festival admission is free! There are also VIP and BOK Zone ticket options for those who want to have a little more fun than everyone else. If you still need convincing (or if you’re just an artistically inclined freeloader) then continue on. The Center of the Universe Festival will be a weekend full of jammin’ bands sure to satisfy any musical craving. The 2013 festival will feature two outdoor stages; the Main Stage on Main Street in front of the Cain’s Ballroom, showcasing major national acts, and the second stage at The Guthrie Green, featuring a range of highly acclaimed emerging artists from around the country. After the outdoor stages close each night, the Brady District bars and clubs will open their doors with specially selected live music lineups featuring emerging-artist showcases. This is your chance to say you saw that one band way back before they sold out and everybody liked them. We’ll all say, “We know, you heard them first.” In addition to a VIP Preview Party on Thursday night before the festival, the Center of the Universe Festival will also feature street art, a market for local and regional artists to display and sell their work, and a water park located adjacent to Main Street, two blocks south of the main stage. The proceeds from the festival will benefit the Brady Arts District Business Association to help expand the downtown trolley that currently operates on weekend nights only. Additional funds will be used to build programs to attract and retain artists to the Brady Arts District.
