Help Oklahomans Impacted by the Recent Tornado Outbreak

Ways to help further the work of the American Red Cross

Our thoughts and prayers are with our Oklahoma neighbors as they dig out from the recent round of tornadoes. We have partnered with the American Red Cross to help collect donations for disaster relief and assistance. Financial donations are the quickest and best way to support people impacted by disasters. Below are two shelters that are currently open and available to people following the Memorial Day weekend tornadoes:

What and Where to Donate

If you would like to donate items to help residents affected by the weekend tornadoes, here is where you can drop them off:

Claremore Expo Center

400 Veterans Parkway

Claremore, OK 74017

9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Here is a list of items they are collecting and distributing:

· Water

· Gatorade

· Pet food

· Baby wipes

· Diapers

· Formula

· Hygiene products — shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes

· First aid kits

· Work gloves

· Protein shakes

· Nonperishable food — peanut butter, granola bars, fruit snacks, beef jerky, crackers, etc.

Financial Assistance

The American Red Cross is offering financial assistance for those who need help recovering and whose primary residences were destroyed or sustained eligible structural damage.

To be eligible, households must meet three requirements:

  • Their pre-disaster primary residence (renter or homeowner) is in a confirmed disaster-impacted geographic area.
  • Their head of household is able to provide proof of identity and residence.
  • Their primary residence is assessed to be destroyed or has suffered significant structural damage that requires extensive repairs. A residence that is destroyed is one that is a total loss or with damage so severe that repairs are not feasible.

Many qualifying households will receive an invitation to complete an application through an email, text message, or phone call directly from the American Red Cross. Please follow the instructions in the message and call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) to enroll, confirm eligibility, and receive individual financial assistance.

Resources

During a disaster or emergency, you can rely on Red Cross shelters for:

  • a safe place to sleep
  • meals, snacks, and water
  • health services (for disaster-related conditions), such as first aid, refilling lost prescriptions or replacing lost eyeglasses
  • emotional support and mental health services
  • spiritual care
  • help to reconnect with loved ones
  • information about disaster-related resources in the community.
