Court documents reveal disturbing details of 3-year-old girl’s death in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — We want to warn you: details in this investigation are disturbing.

Court documents detail disturbing new details in the death of a 3-year-old girl in southwest Oklahoma City.

The documents say the toddler’s body was found on Saturday, but her death was not reported until Tuesday afternoon. Oklahoma City Police arrested the girl’s grandmother, 60-year-old Becky Vreeland, for the murder of 3-year-old Riley Nolan.

New court documents explain what police found at a house on Southwest 151st Street near Western Avenue.

Vreeland told police she woke up Saturday morning, and Riley wasn’t in her bed. The grandmother went to the backyard and claimed she found Riley dead in a trash can.

According to the documents, Vreeland didn’t call 911 or tell anyone about Riley’s death until Monday.

Vreeland said she wanted her son, who was set to be released from jail on child neglect charges Saturday, to have a normal Father’s Day with his other children.

Riley’s grandfather found out and called 911 Tuesday afternoon.

Police also interviewed Riley’s young siblings, who said they saw her in bed Saturday morning with a purple eye and a bruised forehead. They also said she wouldn’t wake up.

The court documents go on to say Vreeland used a “whooping stick” made from a wooden bed leg on her grandchildren. Police also reported finding blood stains in a utility room and in Vreeland’s bathroom.

The Medical Examiner says Riley had three separate skull fractures.

A man renting a room in the house from Vreeland is mentioned in the documents but not named. Police questioned him, but he wasn’t charged.

Police arrested Vreeland on a complaint of first-degree murder and child neglect.
