TULSA, Okla. - A Vietnam War veteran says he has finally received his welcome home from the war, 40 years after he served.
Family members say their plan started as talk in a garage on Christmas, and ended with hundreds of people showing their support for Ronnie Haney.
Haney said he did not receive any sort of return ceremony when he returned from Vietnam 40 years ago. Family members say he was even shunned from society.
Haney, accompanied by his son, recently went to Vietnam and Cambodia to make peace with himself.
After this trip, he returned to patriot guard riders, flags, balloons and hugs.
Haney, 71, is a Purple Heart recipient.
He says the return let him know that people do appreciate Vietnam War veterans.
