According to WHBQ-TV, Keishun Hollis, 8, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, was visiting relatives in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, when his aunt and her boyfriend, Hector Lopez, began fighting about 10 p.m. Saturday, police said. When the boy’s aunt tried to drive away, Lopez opened fire at her vehicle, fatally striking Keishun, authorities said.

Police arrested Lopez, who fled the scene, early Sunday, WHBQ reported. He faces charges of capital murder, second-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault, authorities said.

“I think he deserves the death penalty,” Keishun’s mother, Lena Hollis, told WHBQ. “He took my child away from me.”

Lopez, who was jailed without bond, is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 9, officials said.
