Alabama woman fatally mauled by pack of dogs

NAUVOO, Ala. — An Alabama woman was fatally mauled by a pack of dogs Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Ruthie Mae Brown, 36, of Jasper, was walking down a road in Nauvoo when she was attacked, Walker County spokesperson T.J. Armstrong told AL.com.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 p.m. by Walker County Coroner Joey Vick, the Daily Mountain Eagle reported.

Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith said one person has claimed two of the dogs involved, according to the newspaper. Those dogs have been captured and will be turned over to the Walker County Humane Society, Smith said.

Officers were searching for at least three other dogs Monday afternoon, the Daily Mountain Eagle reported. Smith said the dogs were not believed to be strays.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities told AL.com.
