Moore died from Ewing sarcoma, the team said. According to the Mayo Clinic, Ewing sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that occurs in bones or in the soft tissue around the bones.

Moore was 10 in 2019 when the professional soccer team signed her to a two-day contract and appointed her as team captain in the team’s 3-1 victory against FC Cincinnati, WFAA-TV reported.

“From that day forward, she left a remarkable impact on everyone in our organization and on those who met her,” the team wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday. “Everyone at FC Dallas fell in love with her energy and perseverance.”

“You’re making one little soccer-crazy girl very happy today,” Brenda Smith, Moore’s grandmother, said in 2019. “Seeing her come here, the way that she was escorted in ... this is so wonderful.”

The NHL’s Dallas Stars also tweeted its condolences.

“We will miss you, Brynn, and will never forget the courage and inspiration you gave us to fight and win Game 6,” the team wrote on its official Twitter account. “Our love and condolences go out to Brynn’s family and friends.”
