Philadelphia contractor rescues 15 cats, kittens trapped inside abandoned house’s walls

PHILADELPHIA — Fifteen cats and kittens are anxiously seeking their forever homes after a Philadelphia contractor spent about eight hours extracting them from the walls of an abandoned home.

“Thankfully, (the contractor) was able to get them out and bring them to us ... We’re so glad that he did, as quite a few aren’t in great shape, and sadly, one of the kittens was not able to be saved,” the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia posted on its Facebook page Sunday.

According to WPVI, the unidentified contractor was taking down a wall when he said a kitten fell out, prompting him to search for other feline interlopers.

In all, the man rescued nine adult cats and seven kittens, whom ACCT Philly said “owe their lives” to his efforts.

“The cats are scared, some will require more socialization, but right now they are resting in their cages,” the organization wrote in its Sunday post, noting that they were fewer than half of the more than 40 cats taken in that day.
