If you haven’t seen the season 2 finale, Spoiler Alert!

Fans gasped in excitement when a green lightsaber in a gloved hand appeared. Luke Skywalker was back to bring balance to the force of “Star Wars.”

But the de-aging process used to take a 69-year-old Mark Hamill back to his late 20s wasn’t seamless.

That is, until a YouTuber who goes by the name “Shamook,” tried his hand at using deepfake technology to make some adjustments.

Now the person, whose name has not been released, has been hired by the company behind the inspiration of his deepfake.

A representative for Industrial Light and Magic told The Wrap that the company has hired Shamook.

But it wasn’t the YouTube viral hit that got him the job. Instead, it’s the research that Shamook did in artificial intelligence and machine learning that made him a new employee of ILM.

“Over the past several years ILM has been investing in both machine learning and A.I. as a means to produce compelling visual effects work and it’s been terrific to see momentum building in this space as the technology advances,” ILM told TheWrap.

Shamook even apologized to fans for not churning out more deepfake content earlier this month, saying that ILM had hired him and he was a bit busy, Indiewire reported.

“As some of you may already know, I joined ILM/Lucasfilm a few months ago and haven’t had the time to work on any new YouTube content,” Shamook wrote, according to Indiewire. “Now I’ve settled into my job, uploads should start increasing again. They’ll still be slow, but hopefully not months apart. Enjoy.”
