Tulsa’s Discovery Lab celebrates first year at new facility

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa children’s museum Discovery Lab celebrated its one-year anniversary at its new location near 31st Street and Riverside Drive.

The Discovery Lab originally opened in 2007 as an outdoor museum without walls. Then it moved to its first indoor location in Owen Park. Now, it celebrates its one-year anniversary at its latest location, The Gathering Place.

During its time at The Gathering Place, the Discovery Lab has become one of the largest science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) educational spots in the state, serving more than 300,000 visitors per year.

In 2022, Discovery Lab opened its newest location, a 57,000-square-foot facility that serves as a transformative science center for children and families.

The museum also won the Association of Science and Technology Centers Roy L. Shafer Leading Edge award for Visitor Experience due to its STEAM Center partnership with Tulsa Public Schools in 2022.

The STEAM Center helps students delve into creativity, critical thinking and communication skills.

The Discovery Lab will continue hosting its science camps and traveling exhibits program and plans to develop new and exciting exhibits throughout the year.
