The three-day shopping event features unique, one-of-a-kind and often handmade items from jewelry and handbags to furniture, clothing and gourmet foods. It is a rare opportunity to shop for housewares, clothing, jewelry and more from artists, craftsmen and independent retailers from across the country in one place.
In 1985 the first An Affair of the Heart show took place in Oklahoma City attracting 60 booths and 800 attendees. The name “An Affair of the Heart” grew out of the common love for crafting and shopping of the eight women who organized the first show and every show there after. Their goal was to create a fun shopping experience that has become a tradition for generations of women.
In 1995 the show was expanded to the Tulsa market. The logo was changed to distinguish between the two cities, but is still run solely by four of the original eight owners. Thus, the same model is applied and showcased in both cities.
The market for arts and crafts has changed significantly. The traditional crafters are now exhibiting alongside a younger generation of artisans. Hand-made items are still valued, but young retailers can also showcase their goods and products with or without a storefront.
What hasn’t changed is An Affair of the Heart's commitment to showcasing talented artisans, crafters and independent retailers to the public in support of their crafts and the industry.
