A Virginia teen who was killed by an exploding grenade might have gotten the incendiary device at a North Carolina antique store where more live grenades were possibly inadvertently sold, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said.
The teen, who has not been identified, died Dec. 23, the agency said.

Investigators believe the grenade, thought to be harmless, was purchased in June from the Fancy Flea Antique Mall in Shallotte, North Carolina. The same vendor sold additional grenades that could contain live explosives, agents said.
“The grenades were thought to be “inert” MK2 grenades, a style used during World War II,” the agency said. “At the time of sale, neither the vendor nor buyer(s) believed the grenades to be functioning or hazardous.”
